India's relations with Nepal are introwoven with the close geographical, historical and cultural ties. The treaties signed between India and Nepal provide a stable base to the Ind-Nepal relations.Nepal got UN membership in1954 with India's support. In 1955,when the popular ministry was dismissed and the was abrogated by th King of Nepal,to escape arrest many popular leader fled to India to channelise thier pro-democracy and anti-monarchy movement.India in the view of its friendship did not support any anti-Nepal movements from its soil. But a misunderstanding developed. This lead to a difficult phase in the Indo-Nepal relations.Nepal moved closer to China and far away from India. In the post 1962 period Indo-Nepal relations improved,an agreement was also signed in1964.Nepal wholeheartedly supported India in the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 &1971.India-Nepal relations have generall remained cordial.India contribute to be Nepal's major trading and developmental partner.
