If physical intimacy were the only issue between a guy and a girl, what would need to be done to make it work?

Say a guy and a girl get along wonderfully and are hoping to be a couple. But the guy is ready for physical intimacy and the girl is not. Obviously they would have a problem being a couple, but would there be any way to make it work?
