Why do americans pay respect to fallen soldiers who died in civil war in support of slavery?
The civil war though popularized for being about slavery was not about slavery. Slavery was just popularized by the union to portray the south as the bad guy to justify the war. The civil war was more about government. The southern states wanted less government involvement and the union wanted more government involvement. It was about freedom and less socialism. Like any war the victor gets to rewrite the history of what actually happened. There are several good books outside of what is taught in school curriculum's. I suggest reading more about this topic. As for the soldiers in Arlington they all deserve respect, it takes guts to give your life for an ideal.
