What's the difference between an F34 4-footer fluorescent lightbulb and an F40? (4-foot, fluorescent)?

Looks like Boston fan is right, most 4 foot tubes are 40 watts, But perhaps they get the same light from a 34 watt light tube with modern technology and better engineering.
