Should I stain or paint my stair bannister and handrail.?

I have just put in new handrail bannisters and spindles. Unfortunately I bought the PINE bannisters and handrail first and fitted them. By the time I came to fit the spindles I could not get hold of the ones in Pine so I bought HEMLOCK one's, thinking it wouldn't matter as I would gloss them. Now they are in they look so nice and not noticeable that I have used 2 different woods, I want to stain or varnish them. My question is, would I get away with it or will you be able to tell I have used 2 different woods (will they change colour over time). I want to use a light stain or varnish to try and keep the natural colour of the wood.
