Brown mark on my thigh?

I have a brown mark on my thigh and i dont know what it could be, ive always thought it was a birthmark and its really upsetting me ;( , today ive only just spoken to my mum about it but she said she never thought i had it as it wasnt there when i was little, im really worried and i just want it gone :( what could it be? :(
